SUMMARY:Performance + Interactive Public Exhibition: StickMan by Stelarc
DESCRIPTION:IOTA features Stelarc’s StickMan/miniStickMan. \nStickMan/miniStickMan is a minimal but full-body exoskeleton that algorithmically actuates the artist with six degrees-of-freedom. \nSixty-four possible combinations of gestures are generated. Sensors on StickMan generate sounds that augment the pneumatic noise and register the limb movements. \nDurational performance 3:00-7:00pm\, followed by the closing reception of the Bio Art Series from 7:00-8:00pm. \nMORE INFORMATION: \nThis event is free and open to everyone.\nThe venue is fully accessible.\nThe exhibition runs from May 30 – June 21 (Wed through Sat\, noon to 5pm\, Thursday 2pm to 7pm) \nABOUT THE ARTIST: \nStelarc is a performance artist who has visually probed and acoustically amplified his body. He has made three films of the inside of his body. Between 1976-1988 he completed 26 body suspension performances with hooks into the skin. He has used medical instruments\, prosthetics\, robotics\, Virtual Reality systems\, the Internet and biotechnology to engineer intimate and involuntary interfaces with the body. \nABOUT IOTA’S BIO ART SERIES: \nImmerse your senses in the transcendent discipline of Bio Art. IOTA’s Bio Art Series continues this spring with a collection of talks\, workshops\, and exhibitions designed to bring Bio Art into public and accessible forums.
